In the dying moments, sheer ecstasy broke out for Chelsea and caretaker boss Calum McFarlane as Enzo Fernández bundled in a dramatic equaliser. The goal left Pep Guardiola in a state of despair and provided the temporary Chelsea manager a career-defining moment. On paper, Guardiola versus McFarlane was the Premier League's greatest managerial mismatch in class, making the recollection of Fernández's pivotal intervention one to warm the 40-year-old throughout his career.

A Glaring Contrast in Experience

On the City bench was the generation's pre-eminent figure, a man with an unparalleled CV for football's giants Barcelona, Bayern Munich, and Manchester City, overseeing his 1,012th match. In the opposite technical area, was a one-time trainer at non-league sides Croydon and Whyteleafe, who had worked in City's own academy and arrived to make his first-team debut after being temporarily promoted from his regular role guiding Chelsea's youth teams.

Factoring in a host of absences, headlined by Chelsea's key midfielder Moisés Caicedo (suspended) and goalkeeper Robert Sánchez (injured), McFarlane's task began as a mission that seemed close-to-impossible.
